Why does skin get dry? This is due to sun damage and the use of skin-care products that contain irritating or drying ingredients. Here are a few tips for those who have dry skin.

Prevent baths and showers from making dry skin even worse:

Close the bathroom door

Limit your time in the shower or bath to 5 or 10 minutes

Use warm rather than hot water

Wash with a gentle, fragrance-free or scented with natural essential oils natural soap bar

Blot your skin gently dry with a towel

Slather on the moisturizer such as body oil immediately after drying your skin.

Oil based ointments, creams are more effective and less irritating than lotions. Look for a cream or ointment that contains oil such as olive oil or jojoba oil. Shea butter also works well.

Use only gentle skin care products. Some skin care products are too harsh for dry, sensitive skin.

Wear gloves. Our hands are often the first place we notice dry skin. You can reduce dry, raw skin by wearing gloves.

Choose non-irritating clothes and laundry detergent, go for a natural one (Castile soap, soda, etc.). When our skin is dry even clothes and laundry detergent can be irritating.

Add moisture to the air. Plug in a humidifier.

Honey is a natural moisturizer and a skin-softening agent. Dab some honey onto the dry areas of your skin with a cotton.Leave for 10 minutes and then wash off.

Drink enough water. If possible use filtered soft water in the shower.
